Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections
What They Are
Which Conditions They’re Best For
Mild to moderate osteoarthritis (knee, hip, shoulder, ankle)
Tendinopathies (patellar, Achilles, tennis elbow)
Plantar fasciitis
Rotator cuff-related pain
Other soft tissue injuries where natural healing is required
PRP may also be used in combination with hyaluronic acid (HA) in some cases to optimise results.
Typical PRP Treatment Regimens
Three-Injection Course – Often given as a series of injections over several weeks, supported by strong clinical evidence for reducing pain and improving function.
Single High-Concentration Injection – A newer approach using a higher platelet dose in one session, designed to deliver similar benefits with added convenience.
Natural & Regenerative – Uses your own blood, with no synthetic drugs or animal products
Well-Studied – Arthrex PRP kits are trusted globally in orthopaedics and sports medicine
Stimulates Healing – Growth factors encourage tissue repair and reduce inflammation
Longer-Lasting Relief – Relief often lasts longer than with corticosteroid or HA injections
Safe – Very low risk of allergic reaction or rejection, since it’s prepared from your own blood
Versatile – Effective for both joint and soft tissue conditions
Variable Response – Results differ between patients; some respond better than others
Gradual Effect – Improvement builds over weeks to months, rather than immediately
Cost – More advanced and generally more expensive than steroid or HA injections
Temporary Discomfort – Some patients notice soreness or swelling for a few days after treatment

What to expect at your consultation
Most patients notice gradual improvement in pain and function over the weeks that follow, with benefits often lasting many months.
At your face-to-face appointment you will:
1
Be Assessed
The doctor will review your condition, confirm suitability for PRP, and discuss the treatment course (single high-concentration injection vs a 3-injection series)
2
PRP Process
A small sample of your blood will be taken, prepared using the Arthrex PRP system, and concentrated platelets drawn up for injection
3
Receive The Injection
PRP will be injected precisely into the target joint or tissue under ultrasound guidance
Important: You should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medication (NSAIDs) for 2 weeks before and 1 week after your PRP injection, as these can interfere with the healing response.
